Ceramics
Jennie Blue
Jenn has long been drawn to graphite and pen-and-ink sketches—the quick, exploratory studies that often come before finished work. These sketches serve as the foundation and inspiration for her ceramics.
An illustrator by training, Jenn uses earthenware and porcelain as her canvas. When asked why she paints on ceramics, she explains, “My passion is sculptural installation. Working on a three-dimensional surface allows me to explore illustration in relation to form. Each time I set up my booth, a new installation emerges, shaped by the dialogue between image and object.”
A sense of humor runs throughout her work: a pig eyeing a tempting acorn, a tall and elegant pitcher adorned with an oversized fly, or even Ruth Bader Ginsburg rendered on a platter—each piece thoughtfully designed to delight and amuse. All of her ceramic work is hand-painted.
This winter, Jenn is focusing on constructing slab-built porcelain forms as a new surface for illustration.
She has also expanded her practice to include illustrated tea towels, broadening the reach of her work. Printed locally on 100% cotton using environmentally friendly, water-based inks, these textiles bring her drawings into everyday life.
