Tern Coffee

Tern Coffee is a Midcoast Maine micro-roastery based in downtown Brunswick, founded and operated by husband-and-wife team Chris and Heidi Townsend. Committed to sustainability and climate-friendly practices, Tern Coffee partners with small family farms around the world while educating its community about the coffees and teas it serves.

Launched in 2023 and originally roasted from the Townsends’ home, Tern Coffee grew into a welcoming Maine Street storefront where craft and care define every cup. Drawing on years of experience in the specialty coffee industry—including time spent with Wicked Joe Organic Coffee—the Townsends set out to create a hometown roastery rooted in quality, transparency, and connection.

Tern Coffee offers thoughtfully prepared espresso drinks, drip and slow-drip coffees, cold brew, and a curated selection of teas, along with house-made almond milk and locally inspired flavor options. Beyond beverages, the roastery also provides coffee equipment and accessories for home brewers.

Education and relationship-building are central to Tern Coffee’s mission. The Townsends prioritize direct connections with small family farms, sourcing beans from regions such as Oaxaca, Mexico; Guji, Ethiopia; and Aceh, Indonesia. By sharing the stories behind each origin, Tern Coffee creates a bridge between global farming communities and the local Brunswick community—one cup at a time.
