Every Stone tells a story of history, art and fashion
Maureen O’Keefe has spent decades gathering jewels that are old, handmade, and inherently beautiful through her travels abroad. Each piece she collects carries a layered story of history, artistry, and fashion.
In the souks of Oman, amid the scent of cardamom and coffee, she wandered into tucked-away stalls to barter for vintage Bedouin chains and silver beads. In Ghana, bead vendors drew her to Koforidua—a renowned bead center—where she discovered centuries-old European beads originally made for the African trade. In Lima, Peru, Maureen spent hours negotiating in Spanish with a vendor named Julio, trading for newly hand-cut semi-precious stones and timeworn shell beads he carried in a small pouch. To see, touch, and wear one of her creations is to experience more than a necklace—it is a testament to humanity’s enduring and irrepressible desire for beauty and adornment, present since the beginning of time.
